WHIPLASH
in concert
Immerse yourself in the -sometimes ruthless- world of a prestigious jazz school in New York and rediscover Damien Chazelle’s masterpiece on a big screen to the sound of Justin Hurwitz’s music. The soundtrack will be performed live and in perfect synchronisation with the film by Benoït Sourisse and André Charlier’s brilliant Multiquarium Big Band. Much like Andrew (Miles Teller), a young and promising drummer in pursuit of perfection afcing the incessant critiques of his taacher, Mr. Fletcher (J.K. Simmons) , André Charlier will have the challenging task of following every baton movement with total precision, showcasing the art of films in concert at its peak.
Charlier/Sourisse Multiquarium Big Band Charlier/Sourisse, it’s an old story. An impressive one. As if they understood before everyone else that our fate belongs to us, they started their little business and built with their four hands their life as musical twins. First on the roads of France, and then the circle got bigger. They gathered an army of supporters, a growing and loyal audience started to follow them. Through their relentless desire to connect and share with people, they managed to stay connected with each new generation. They imagined their projects with the heart, without calculations, crossing paths with their heroes on the way: Didier Lockwood of course – a long journey together left an everlasting mark - and Jerry Bergonzi, then Kenny Garrett, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Randy Brecker … In 2015, their Multiquarium Big Band was born with their first album including 13 original compositions. A few years later, they decided to give life to their Multiquarium Big Band through the music of a great, Jaco Pastorius, an extraordinary idea. “Jaco’s music lives in their hands and Biréli Lagrène’s one – on bass- with a spontaneity and a communicative enthusiasm, an impressive collective spirit rises it to the top.” - Daniel Yvinec. The Multiquarium Big Band: a crazy poetic jungle, an effervescent box filled with unlikely stories, that once again surprises us with their last challenge: Whiplash in concert!
